As Facilities Assistant, this individual assumes responsibility for entry-level maintenance and construction assignments, playing a vital role in supporting the seamless operation of all facilities and programs at Scaled Composites.
This includes contributing to a range of minor maintenance and construction activities across buildings and surrounding grounds, including tasks in manufacturing, flight test hangars, offices, warehouses, storage, and processing areas.
The work environment may involve indoor and outdoor settings, elevated locations, and exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Additionally, the role encompasses groundskeeping duties, involving the management of weeds, stickers, tumbleweeds, and the maintenance of pristine ground surfaces.
The Facilities Assistant reports to the Facility Maintenance Area Lead and Point of Contact.

Summary:

We are a rapid prototyping and manufacturing facility, designing, building, and testing proof-of-concept and prototype vehicles.
We have flown an average of one new aircraft type per year over our 40-year history such as Proteus, GlobalFlyer, SpaceShipOne, Model 401, and Stratolaunch.
Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Using a variety of basic hand tools and shop equipment in a safe manner.
Learning and applying different methods of building maintenance and construction to assist in the upkeep of company grounds and facilities.
Removing and replacing air filters for building systems.
Emptying and removing trash waste from facility buildings Operating company vehicles and equipment, as required, within company policy.
Cleaning and organizing work areas, vehicles, and equipment.
Ability to work autonomously, as well as, in a team environment, using effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills in-person /over radio, and providing great customer service.
Identifying safety issues and taking appropriate corrective action.
Ability to prioritize tasks and complete in appropriate time period.
Performing escorting duties for employees and guests, driving off-premises - including outside of Mojave to deliver or pick up employees and/or products.
Stocking supply areas with items such as drinking water or printer paper, as needed.
Performing non-routine tasks, as assigned.

Knowledge and ability to use common tools, materials, equipment, and methods used in carpentry, roofing, electrical, plumbing, painting, and masonry trades Experience in maintenance or construction in a commercial or manufacturing setting Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, quickly changing work environment Ability to manage time and prioritize work Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with employees and customers Essential Job Functions:

Must have sufficient agility to work in the interior of an aircraft structure.
Will need to bend, stoop, squat, and/or kneel to occasionally work in cramped, tiring, and uncomfortable positions.
Ability to work overhead for prolonged periods of time including lifting up to 10-15 pounds.

Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for an assigned task.
Work with composite materials such as epoxy resin systems, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and foam/core products.
Will also work closely with chemicals, such as acetone and alcohol.
May be exposed to dirt, oil, fuel, grease, and hydraulic fluids.
Able to adapt to altered schedules.
Occasional pushing/pulling of heavy tools and tables (75-100
lbs.
, with assistance).
Manual dexterity to handle small parts, and tools and to manipulate composite material to various shapes using pressure.
Repetitive hand and arm motions including, but not limited to, trimming, sanding, and/or grinding of materials.
Occasional sitting computer work Vision at close distances and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to operate a forklift and/or other heavy machinery including occasional driving of company-owned vehicles.
Must be able to pass and maintain 'pass' status on OSHA-approved Pulmonary Fitness Test (PFT) in order to wear a respirator for prolonged periods of time.
Work on varied work surfaces/environments, including but not limited to working in a busy shop environment, cold room, or in/on aircraft structures including raised platforms including but not limited to ladders, scaffolding, and stairs.
Work may be performed inside or outside of buildings.
May be exposed to changing weather conditions.
Must be able to read and understand SDS.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
